Correctional Officers Speak About Vests

From a Female Correctional Officer, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
I work at a male prison in CA., I was issued a vest fitted for me. It still seems to be too high in the waist, but at least I have one that was made for me. Hopefully I will never need to find out if it actually works, but I hope if I ever need it, it will do its job!

From a Correctional Officer, Nevada Department of Corrections
I am the only female officer who works in the Disruptive Group Management Unit, working with Administrative and Disciplinary Segregation inmates.  I wear a male vest. I know that there are female vests out there because when they first started to purchase the vests for these housing units, the female vests were more specific to our breast size.  The male vests are large, XL, etc.  We were told that female vests would not be cost effective because more people could wear vests designed for males.
